Iggy Pop & The Stooges

So we’re not THAT familiar with Iggy & The Stooges – we’re more familiar with Iggy’s solo work – but we had to jump at the chance (even just after our MARATHON Live weekend road trip) to catch a legend in concert. And we certainly weren’t dissapointed.
“Why do they have the amps on stage strapped down?” Because in the first three songs Iggy had: humped the amps, used the mic and cord as a type of rope in various poses (including “jesus on the cross”), swung the mic by its cord over his head in large circles – reaching at least 10 ft out into the audience (and almost hitting the drummer behind him), barked like a dog (on “I wanna be your dog”) and dove into the crowd…all while doing his trademark “non”-dancing consisting of some type of twitch fit… Needless to say – Iggy NEEDS to have The Stooges amps strapped down… And anything else around him should be strapped down too – if it wants to survive. His roadies (and manager?) are constantly untangling him from the mic cord, giving him more mic cord as he heads into the audience (down on the floor in front) to sing, picking up his mic stand, pulling fans off of him (Iggy doesn’t seem to mind people getting right up on him at all), etc. In fact – on one song Iggy invited the audience to come on stage with him… “I hate that rock and roll bullshit.”... and sure enough 40 or so people got up on stage to punk out, and generally mob, Iggy. All the while his roadies are trying to “defend Iggy” – and Iggy is trying to get close to / interact with the people on stage. It was pretty wild.
All of that from a wiry thin – but muscular – 60 year old, who could easily kick my ass. We loved it.
